<h2>The Long Road to Passing Good Policy</h2>Serving in a chamber controlled by a Republican supermajority, Nate Blouin has had to fight for every inch of progress. Despite those steep odds, he has had two of his bills signed into law, a testament to his ability to build coalitions without compromising his values. But Nate's record is about more than legislation. He has used his seat and his microphone to stand up for his constituents, pushing back against Republican overreach and making sure working Utahns have a voice in a chamber that too often ignores them. He has also introduced bold, forward-looking proposals: legislation to get ICE out of Utah, a $20 minimum wage, and a state-run universal healthcare program. These bills may not have passed in a supermajority Republican legislature, but they have moved the debate, put his colleagues on record, and shown Utahns that a different vision for their state is possible.

Take On Trump and MAGA Republicans

<h4>When Nate moved to Utah at 19, he came with a passion for the great outdoors and the range of opportunities for young people that no other state has to offer.</h4>He is a proud graduate of Salt Lake Community College and University of Utah. After a health scare right out of school, Nate found himself juggling student loan debt, even relying on SNAP just to get by. After earning a degree in Public Affairs, he worked to bring renewable solutions to bring down the cost of energy for Utah families.&nbsp; In 2022, Nate beat a 36-year incumbent State Senator by over 50 points. He now serves in the State Senate, where he fights for progressive causes in a chamber where too many of our party prioritize deal-making over values. Nate is proud of being labeled a "punk" after standing up to Republican leadership and getting his mic cut off on the Senate floor on numerous occasions. <h3>Take Corporate Money Out of Politics </h3>Citizens United opened our election system to a flood of untraceable corporate money that has presented an unprecedented risk to our democracy. As a candidate for Congress I refuse to take corporate PAC money. Democracy should not be for sale, corporations are not people, and money is not speech <h3>Reform the Criminal Justice System </h3>It is unacceptable that America has the largest prison population in the world. I will fight to end the War on Drugs, mandatory minimum sentencing and cash bail, solitary confinement, and take steps to abolish the private prison system that prioritizes profits over rehabilitation. <h3>Fight for National Gerrymandering Reform </h3>Over 70% of congressional districts in America do not have competitive general elections. The health of our democracy is at stake unless we fix this and let voters choose their elected officials, not the other way around.

<h3>Pass the Equality Act </h3>Non-discrimination protections that apply to race, religion, and gender should be expanded to include the LGBTQ community. Passing the Equality Act would explicitly ban discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender. Enacting Medicare For All would also expand LGBTQ mental health services and protect trans health access. <h3>Protect The Right to Choose </h3>Women–not politicians–should be trusted to make personal healthcare decisions, particularly when it comes to starting a family. I strongly oppose Republican attacks on Planned Parenthood and life-saving healthcare for women across the country and support full repeal of the Hyde Amendment.

<h3>Preserve Public Lands </h3>Utah’s strength is its environmental assets: that’s why we need to strengthen the Clean Air Act and give the EPA the tools, funding and staff to enforce the law. I will fight to pass the Redrock Wilderness Act and secure funding to save Great Salt Lake. <h3>Pass the Green New Deal </h3>Passing the Green New Deal will transition our country away from fossil fuels and dramatically expand existing renewable power sources. It will also provide people across the country with the opportunity, training and education needed to participate fully and equally in a green economy, offering jobs to help rebuild our crumbling infrastructure.

<h3> Protect and Expand Social Security </h3>Millions of Americans rely on Social Security to keep them from slipping into poverty. I will stand up for this critical program and the Americans it supports. This means keeping it out of the hands of Wall Street, protecting benefits from garnishment as a result of student loan debt, and expanding existing benefits to keep up with the cost of living. <h3>Tax the Billionaires </h3>A billionaire could spend $10,000 every day for 273 years and still not run out of money. We need to comprehensively reform the tax system so it benefits working people and ensures the top 1%, Wall Street, and large corporations pay their fair share. <h3>Support Affordable Public College and Trade School </h3>High tuition costs have put college and trade schools out of reach for too many Utahn’s and millions of Americans are saddled with a lifetime of student loan debt. I support capping tuition, banning predatory student loans, and increasing public funding for higher education so everyone has a path to a degree and end the equity gap in higher education. <h3>Ensuring Affordable Housing and Protecting Renters and Homeowners </h3>We must take action to provide stable, affordable housing to everyone. I will fight to pass legislation to curb rent increases through the Place to Prosper Act, stop unjust evictions, and provide protection and mortgage relief for homeowners. <h3>Secure a Living Wage </h3>No one who works full time should live in poverty. Today’s full-time minimum wage employee with a family of three earns significantly below the federal poverty line. That is unacceptable. I support raising the federal minimum wage from $7.25 to at least $15 an hour while tying minimum wage to inflation. <h3>Enact Medicare for All </h3>The ACA expanded coverage and access to affordable, quality health care for millions of Americans. At the same time, millions more of our fellow citizens remain uninsured and now MAGA Republicans are fighting to raise premiums for those at the edge of losing coverage and care. Health care is a human right and passing Medicare for All will ensure that greedy pharmaceutical and health insurance companies can’t put their profits above your health.
